I've been riding dirtbikes since I was a kid(30+ years). had hundreds of bikes over the years from Stock 50CC trail bikes to heavily modified CR500's. Lots of street bikes too. Everything from 250CC track bike to ZX6 to R1 to my ZX14. I've had so many scrapes, bruises, sprains and broken bones over the years I stopped keeping track.
So I had a little accident on my dirtbike back in July. Was in a epic catwalk(Wheelie) about a mile long and there's one spot on the trail that is always wet(stream runs buy and keeps 2' across the trail wet). I've catwalked over it hundreds of times and no issues...but that day I assume I was under lots of power because the rear tire kicked out as I hit it. I didn't go down too hard, but the way my boot caught the trail I ended up breaking both bones in my left leg(Fibula and tibia). they put in a 9" plate and 16 pins/screws. was in a full cast up to my hip for a month, then 3 months in Knee high casts when a aircast walking cast for a month. and physio for the last 2 months(with the removable aircast). I'm starting to realize that my bones don't heal as good as they once did. and the accidents hurt just a little more nowadays. Hopefully this accident smartened me up a little bit...
When your out ripping around weather its on the Asphalt or dirt, anything can happen at anytime. So much can change on the next lap or that road you took 2 days ago has been torn up and is gravel now. Just remember to play safe my friends!!
The break. if you look at bone on right(Fibula) you see the crack that runs vertical the whole length
The repair(Pins/Plate)
The Scar
Full leg cast
First and 2nd cast(the rest are just plain ones)
So much muscle loss
